Today was a wonderful school day.
At first, we had the usual time table: maths, German and Irish. After the break, we had one lesson with our woodworks teacher, but we could do what we wanted to do. Then we already had a lunch break, because of that we did a trip to the theatre and the buses left at 12:30. In the theatre, in Castlebar, we watched “Blood Brothers”. It is a drama, which we already read in English a few months ago.
The drama is about the life of two brothers (they are twins). Their mother (Mrs. Johnstone) is a single parent and already has 7 children, so her employer (Mrs. Lyons) adopts one of the twins after birth because she can´t get children. They grow up separately and they aren´t allowed to see each other or even go close to the other house because of Mrs. Johnstone is superstitious and she thinks if they find out that they are twins than they will die. When Edward (Mrs. Lyons) and Mickey (Mrs. Johnstone) are 7 years old they meet and become friends. At the moment Mrs. Lyons finds that out she convinces her husband to move to the country so they don´t see each other again. “Edward shouldn´t mix with people like Mickey.” Years later, Mrs. Johnstone moved away as well to restart, Mickey and Edward meet again. They are 14 years old now. The boys and Linda, a girl who is in love with Mickey, become best friends and do everything together until they are 18. Then Mickey and Linda become a couple (finally), and Edward has to go to university. Mickey works in a factory. Edward will be back in the Christmas holidays, so Mickey promises him to organize a big party. But then Linda gets pregnant, they marry and Mickey loses his job. When Edward is back, they are arguing because Edward always had it so easy in life, he is rich… A few weeks later Mickey and his older brother Sammy rob a bank and during they escape Sammy shoots a man. With reference to that, they have to go to jail for years (Mickey for 7, no information about Sammy). The days after his release are pretty hard for Linda and Mickey because Mickey got depressed and addicted to tablets when he was in jail. He doesn´t really care about his daughter and Linda, who got them a nice place and a job. Linda is pretty sad so she talks to Edward when Mickey hears that she is with Edward he becomes mad and gets his gun. He wants to shoot Edward, but then his mother, Mrs. Johnstone, and a policeman enter the room and Mrs. Johnstone says that he is his twin brother. Mickey is shocked angry “I could have been him, why didn´t you give me away?” and shoots Edward. In the same moment, the policeman shoots Mickey.
That´s the end.
In my opinion, the story is interesting and also the play was really good. Just at the moment when they shot with guns, I got a fright from the noise.
